WHAT IS THE MOMAR? Cumberland is an adventure racer’s dream destination, filled with world-class single-track trails, breath-taking terrain and set in a cozy little historic mining town. This MOMAR will feature kayaking, mountain biking, trekking (trail running/hiking), maybe some bushwhacking and possibly a few mystery challenges too. It will be a test for both the seasoned weekend warrior and the dedicated novice. Make sure you plan on staying the Saturday night as this race features a ‘not-to-be-missed’ awards dinner and after party. Watch the race video to see what the MOMAR is all about.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Enduro course is 50K and features approximately 10K of paddling, 25K of mountain biking and 15K of trekking. The Sport course is 30K with approximately 5K of paddling, 15K of mountain biking and 10K of trekking. You will not know the order of the stages and it is very likely that the biking and trekking stage will be broken up into multiple stages. For example, a MOMAR course may require you to paddle, bike, trek, bike, and then trek to the finish line. For the most part, teams will be required to self navigate from one checkpoint to the next; however, some sections of the mountain bike stage may be flagged.
ESTIMATED COMPLETION TIME: Teams can expect to finish the MOMAR in 4.5 to 8 hours for the Enduro and 3.5 to 6.5 hours for the Sport. All teams must cross the finish line by 5pm or face disqualification. There will be a series of time cutoff points to ensure you make the finish line time deadline.
TEAM COMPOSITION: For the Enduro, you can race solo or in a team of two or four. Sport course racers can ONLY race as team of two. Any gender combination is allowed.
FRIDAY NIGHT MANDATORY REGISTRATION: All teams are required to come to the Cumberland Village Park (map) on Friday night to pick up their race package and event t-shirt. In your package, you will find a Letter from the Race Director that will provide you with very important information about the race and bike drop location. We’ll have cold Hoyne beer on tap and live music too! One member from your team can check in the entire team.
NEW – AWARDS DINNER: Due to COVID restrictions, we are unable to hold the MOMAR awards dinner and after party up at Mt. Washington. Instead, we will be providing a catered dinner right at the finish line starting at 5:15pm. We’ll have live music, cold beer, recognize the top racers in each category and give away some amazing prizes. Yes, we are very bummed that we can’t celebrate up at Mt. Washington this year, but we’ll make up for it next year! If you have any specific dietary restrictions for Saturday night’s dinner, please email email@example.com.
COVID PROTOCOLS: The MOMAR will follow all guidelines as directed by BC’s Provincial Health Officer under the Public Health Act. Specifically, since all MOMAR activities take place outside, participants are not required to show proof of vaccination. Masks will be required when on the 5-minute shuttle bus ride to the start of the race.
WHAT CAN I WIN? All first place finishers in each category will receive a trophy, $50 Gift Certificate from Frontrunners, accolades from your fans and bragging rights until next year. Second place finishers will receive a trophy and a box of Hornby Organic OSnack bars. Third place finishers will receive a trophy and a bottle of Hoyne beer. Other big prizes include a $500 Gift Card to Atmosphere, a $500 Shopping Spree at Frontrunners and a weekend stay at the Parkside Hotel & Spa in Victoria.
And we encourage you to put the FUN into the race by coming in costume and compete for the highly coveted Atmosphere Spirit Award. The top 10 teams with the best costume/spirit will go into a draw for comp entries to the next MOMAR and $100 Atmosphere gift card! NOTE: Prizes subject to change.

NEED TO RENT A KAYAK? If you need to rent a kayak, we have a team of suppliers who will bring the boats to the race. However, these boats book up quick (like in January) so you’ll need to be prepared to find alternate sources. There are many companies that do not deliver, but you can go and pick up a boat from their shop and transport it over yourself. Don’t forget that you don’t have to paddle a kayak either, you can paddle a canoe, paddle board, or outrigger. Click here for a complete list of kayak rental companies that deliver boats to the MOMAR.
